“I’m NOT The Taxman” – but I do like the song!
Whether you like the Beatles or not, you just can’t take away the fact that Paul McCartney is a true legend on the Bass!! His style and composition (along with his guitar/bass playing ability) truly makes him one of a kind. I have to believe that his prior musical talent on the six string guitar helped form his unique style as a bassist.
In “TAXMAN”, this style shines brightly – especially during the ‘Bridge’ portion of this song where he incorporates a ton of notes into a single bar of 4/4 music played moderately fast to begin with – not much different than the style of a Lead Guitarist slammin’ out a solo.
This was really not an “easy” song to learn to play, but it was definitely a “Fun” one for me! It’s not perfect in any sense of the word (I’m no Paul McCartney), but I certainly had fun reminiscing back to my old days of being a (much younger/energetic) guitar player by incorporating a ton of ‘Hammer-On’ notes on the strings on my Ibanez SR500E!!
